Specialist surgery.
Unhurried care.
Outstanding outcomes.

Julian limits his practice to hip and knee surgery so he can deliver the highest level of expertise for every patient he sees. Julian works exclusively in private practice, allowing him to focus his full attention on the patients he treats in his rooms and at Southern Cross Hospital.

Hip Surgery

Total hip replacement utilising computer navigation technology for precise implant positioning and optimal outcomes.

Knee Surgery

Total and partial knee replacement utilising computer navigation and individualised implant planning and positioning. Procedures also include knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), ACL reconstruction, and patellofemoral stabilisation.

Dedicated expertise.
Personal care.

Julian Stoddart trained at Otago Medical School, graduating with distinction in 1992. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics) and a member of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, and has devoted his career entirely to hip and knee surgery.

Julian believes that every patient deserves to be treated as an individual, not a number. Whether you're an active person in your forties dealing with a sporting injury, or an older adult whose arthritis is limiting the life you want to live, Julian takes the time to understand your goals and what matters most to you — before recommending any treatment. Non-surgical options are always explored first.

When surgery is the right path, Julian books his operating lists with generous time for each patient. You will never feel rushed. His theatre sessions at Southern Cross Hospital are unhurried by design, supported by an experienced team who have worked together for many years — because he knows that the care and precision applied in that theatre directly determines your outcome and your recovery.

Julian also utilises the latest computer navigation technology and medical AI tools to ensure the most accurate diagnosis, optimal implant positioning, and the best possible results for every patient he treats.
